Domingo Trassens @trassens #WR: How Germany keep factories working in COVID-19 pandemic? @WSJ posted story marking that German authorities didn’t force to close plants and companies took strict safety rules and testing in-house. In Ebm-papst Group only 15 of its 6,700 employees fell sick. #Germany #COVID19
In the story titled: “How Germany Kept Its Factories Open During the Pandemic”, The Wall Street Journal describes a series of cases of German companies that didn’t stop the manufacturing lines during the more dramatical moment of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the virus arrived to Europe and started to infect a lot of European citizens in special in Italy, Spain and France.
Ebm-papst Group, a fan and motor manufacturer based near Germany’s Black Forest, has 6,700 employees. Only 15 of them fell sick and after that they recovered. The company applied strict safety rules, including “social distancing”, “face masks” and the COVID-19 testing in-house for all the employees.
Other case was CLAAS, an agricultural machinery manufacturer based in northwest Germany. According to @WSJ, “The company quickly rolled out safety measures in its German plants when it saw the situation deteriorating in China, including increased distances between workers where possible and the use of masks. Its virus crisis group meets every day. About 20 of the company’s 5,000 workers in Germany were infected, a spokesman said. Most of those cases happened early on, he said, and the company traced and quarantined other workers who might have been exposed. Most of the infected workers have since recovered and returned to work, he said.”
In summary, the decision of the German government to give to factories the freedom to continue with their operations forced to the companies to take all the responsibilities for their businesses and the health of their employees. This is a good example of how to fight against pandemics without damage the economy of the countries.
