RETHINKING: Thanksgiving in Black and White

Dear Friends:

Today across all the United States, we celebrate Thanksgiving Day, an important holiday with roots in the past of the country and in the first immigrants who started to build this great nation.

At the current moment, for a lot of Americans, Thanksgiving is a big dinner or lunch with a lot of food and people around talking and eating a good turkey dish.

But really, is this, Thanksgiving? We will not read again the books of history that explain the origins of this celebration. However, we have the obligation to rethink the meaning of Thanksgiving in the right way.

The "turkey dish" is a superficial way of thinking about Thanksgiving,  more now that there are people who cannot afford a reasonable dish of food every day.

The humanity is going ahead in a lot of aspects, but the inequality and the social problems are growing too. And the problems are not only located in Rohingya, Libya, Syria or the African desert.

Here, in America we find people who cannot afford a decent life because they are discriminated despite their qualifications and personal efforts. The discrimination doesn’t have race, sex or age. And not all the people who have bad incomes are lazy individuals or without qualification.

After the financial crisis of 2007/09, thousands and maybe millions of American citizens had to accept jobs for less than their qualifications. The illegal immigration helped to push down the labor market.

We are living now in a world where the human values are counted by the cars, houses and banking accounts the people have. This is not an exclusive problem of America. In Europe and other countries, we find the same social problems.

Despite the gloomy landscapes that we described in the previous paragraphs, we have motifs to say: “Thank you!” And we have to say “Thank you!” more frequently.

We have to be grateful with who help us. How many times, we are in front the abyss but we don’t fall because an invisible “angel” stops us in the right place?

Thanksgiving celebration is one of the key days in the year to rethink the good and bad thing of our lives. This is a right moment to recognize who are our good friends, and who deserve we help them.

The world is tired of wars, hate and brutal attacks against innocent people. The world is tired of abuses against the human dignity. The world is tired of the superficiality of the individuals who only see through the screen of a smart-phone or the windshield of a fancy car. Thanksgiving is one of the opportunities to rethink our world in a positive way and go ahead.

Happy Thanksgiving!

RETHINKING: Before Thanksgiving, North Korean Obsession

Dear Friends:

A day before the Thanksgiving Holiday, the American newspapers are full of international news, the majority of them related to North Korea.

In the domestic side, the big issue is the sexual misconduct of politicians, journalists and celebrities. It seems an epidemic without a clear end.

Today, Wall Street Journal is launching a suggestive question: “Will Romney run for Senate?” It is important to remark that after a period of “silence”, the name of the former Republican candidate for the presidency is returning to the headlines.

Other relevant news from yesterday evening in different newspapers was the resignation of Meg Whitman as CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Normally, this kind of news is not important when journalists and newspapers have a lot of talk about politics or economy. In the last days, there is nothing really important from the White House and Congress.

Our journalists are more interested in how the North Korean live and their internal problems than our own problems. By the way, in Twitter, somebody wrote about the North Korean women who are soldiers and the rape problems in the army of that country. (But in the Communist countries nobody talks about sexual misconduct of the leaders.)

I would like to share with you my comments about some news this morning in the blog sector of WSJ.

RETHINKING: Why a Devil Stormed in a Town Church

Dear Friends:

During the ceremony of Sunday, in the Baptist church of Sutherland Springs, Texas something terrible happened. A man in black clothes and heavy armed stormed in the temple shooting against the parishioners (26 deaths, 20 or more wounded people).

Who knew before that in this small town of less than thousand inhabitants something like this could occurs?

The questions about this horror scene rose immediately: Why? Why somebody would destroy the peaceful life of this small town, covering the Baptist church with innocent blood?

According to the police reports, the suspect of the crime is Devin Patrick Kelley, a man who served in the U.S. Air Force, and ended his military career due to a martial court for the assault to his wife and child.

Now, Devin P. Kelley is dead and a lot of questions will remain open forever. A normal man who has family problems does not plan a massacre in a church only for revenge.

It is evident that this man was not a normal person. He planned and executed the massacre like an “executioner”, with black clothing and shooting to every person he found outside and inside the temple.

Maybe, there are not medical records about the kind of mental disorders of Devin P. Kelley, but according to the information that it is public in the media; he was a violent man with the level of cruelty to hit a small child in his head, the child of his wife.

Through the movements he did during the mass shooting in the church, we can see that Kelley was really a devil.

His domestic problems and the mass shooting in the church exceed the bad behavior of an individual who reacts aggressively due to a frustration.

In the church, we see that he acted with cold blood trying to kill every individual - child or/and elder too - who was there despite nobody was member of his family. His mother-in-law was not there during the Sunday ceremony.

Kelley acted like a murder-machine, a robot with only a programming action: to kill each human being without care about age, sex, personal link with him or other factor.

And in this slaughter, the Baptist church of Sutherland Springs was the stage of the devil fury. Why the parishioners of this small town church had to die in the hands of this criminal?

People say that Keller went to this church, because his former mother-in-law frequently attended there. Nobody knows about another reason.

The terrible fact is this devil without expressing words took the parishioners of the Sutherland Springs as victims of his fury and anger. According to a survivor of the massacre, he acted systematically, shooting against to everybody he found in his way.

Since that moment, the Church of Sutherland Springs will be marked forever for the innocent blood of a group of martyrs of a devilish action. And this small town never more will sleep quiet.

All the elements in the analysis show us that Kelley was a butcher, a perfect devil.

Why this kind of devils grows in peaceful towns of workers and normal people? Perhaps, medical doctors will say that this guy had a tumor in his brains, or maybe he lived a bad childhood… (At this moment, nobody will resuscitate the dead people and/or heal the trauma that produced in this small Texans town.)

The fact is that Kelley stormed in a church of small town and massacred more than 20 people without a reasonable reason. From domestic disorders to a mass shooting without religious or political reasons, there is a huge distance. And this is the key issue: nobody with human feelings will commit this level of massacre with previous planning.

Somebody who doesn't believe in God, who is atheist, will not storm in a church, trying to spread blood in each corner of the temple only for fury or pleasure.

Only a devil disguised as human can goes against the life of other human beings including children and elder people in the way this criminal did.

Due to Kelley is dead now, we never will not know the truth of truth and the Baptist church of Sutherland Springs will remain forever stained for the murders this Satan  produced.

If this kind of cruel “psyche” becomes normal in our society from now, authorities will have to take strong action against the videogames that disturb the brains of who enjoy killing thousands of fictitious beings in the screen of a digital device. The Texas church massacre and the Las Vegas slaughter are serious warnings about a possible social sickness with destructive obsession.

It is evident that Devin P. Kelley was a devil, but he went to this church during a ceremony for special reason. Surely, he planned the massacre.
