BLOG COMMENTS: 2015/07/23 - 2015/07/30

MY COMMENT: When we read about the “complicated ties” with UBS AG and other top international companies, we see that Hillary Clinton likes to play with “big fishes”.

Of course, this kind of “fishes” – UBS AG, Goldman Sachs, Oracle, Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, Ericsson, Barclay Capital…- will not play with Hillary for “charity” feelings. 2 Recommendations 07/30/2015 08:19:06 AM

MY COMMENT: The reading of this story about the donations that Donald Trump made in the past to Democrats and Republicans confirm who he is.

According to the list, Mr. Trump made donations to Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Ted Kennedy, George W. Bush and others from both parties.

Really, Donald Trump is not Republican neither Democrat. He is a businessman and probably, his current presidential campaign is a new business. 1 Recommendation 07/30/2015 06:20:52 AM

MY COMMENT: The Chinese competition is like a machine to flatten the ground. However, LG is a fighter with experience in the battlefield of the technology industry. It grew in the international market pushing others out of the field.

If the South Korean company rethinks its strategies, reorganizing its business according the current demand of the customers, it will find the way to confront the Chinese. 1 Recommendations 07/29/2015 03:11:06 PM

MY COMMENT: The Chinese are making businesses with Japan since long time, but the relationships between both countries are very bad.

With this frame, it is possible to expect that the Chinese World War II Parade will use to discredit Japan.

Independently of all, U.S. is not Japan and in the diplomatic way, it has to balance all the pros and cons of the Chinese invitation for the parade. 1 Recommendation 07/29/2015 02:23:06 PM

MY COMMENT: The news about the death of Mullah Mohammad Omar is confusing.

Some sources say he died 2 years ago. Others try to guess about who will lead the Taliban group from now.

If the Mullah Omar died 2 years ago and the Taliban movement continues active, it is because somebody else is leading the militants during all this period. 1 Recommendation

MY COMMENT: This story says that Alibaba plans $1 billion investment in cloud-computing to challenge Amazon.com.

Alibaba is an aggressive Chinese player of the e-commerce and Internet sectors that grew a lot in the last few years due his initiative.

From the other side, Amazon is also an aggressive company of the e-commerce and Internet sectors.

The difference between both companies is the strong foundation that Amazon has built during more than a decade and its long experience as provider and user of technology. The challenge of Alibaba will not easy. 1 Recommendation 07/29/2015 11:30:26 AM

MY COMMENT: In his visit to Africa, President Obama talked of improving the economic ties with U.S.

Probably, this initiative came late. During the last few years, the Chinese entered in a very strong way in the African market with different kind of investments and exporting big quantities of products.

If we search a little through Internet, we find that China is No.1 in sales to Kenya and other countries. And the Chinese don’t ask to the Africans for human rights, gay rights and all the other subjects.

(By the way, the Kenyan President rebuked President Obama about his suggestion that Kenya has to recognize the gay rights.) 3 Recommendations 07/28/2015 03:06:06 PM

MY COMMENT: The Microsoft’s decision of giving away the Windows 10 upgrade will help to the migration of the Windows 8 users.

This initiative is an award to the people who were investing in Microsoft during the last years.

However, it will not help to the PC makers who were expecting to increase the sales of machines with the introduction of Windows 10. (Who can upgrade the operating system in his current computer, will not buy a new computer.) 1 Recommendation 07/28/2015 02:48:49 PM

MY COMMENT: Ford Motor gave good news to the financial market with its last quarterly financial reports.

The 44% jump in profit and the strong sales in U.S. mark a new cycle of the car maker with fresh airs.

About the losses in Europe is not a Ford’s problem. It is a Europe’s problem. The Europeans have a lot of problems now.

About China, the competition is very hard and its economy is weak compared with previous periods. 1 Recommendation 07/28/2015 02:40:09 PM

MY COMMENT: The news says that the U.S. Energy firms are planning to cut payroll.

Always the workers are the first “fuses” when the economic figures are weak. 1 Recommendation 07/27/2015 03:00:26 PM

MY COMMENT: Putting a price on a human egg doesn’t imply an effective action against the abuse of the industry of make babies by artificial methods.

It is probable there are a lot of “covert” transactions using women of poor countries as part of the business. 1 Recommendation 07/27/2015 02:36:25 PM

MY COMMENT: We are living in a world of big cynicism where everybody makes great speeches about freedom and against human trafficking, but nobody makes actions against the agents of the human trafficking.

The drama of the palm-oil migrant workers in Malaysia is another sample of slavery in the current times.

Are the Malaysian authorities blind to the corruption and the crime? 2 Recommendations 07/27/2015 02:23:08 PM

MY COMMENT: Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are the two extremes of the current political spectrum for the 2016 presidential election. Probably, a lot of Americans who don’t believe in the classic politicians will opt for one or the other.

However, we have to think a little about the attitude of both candidates. Trump and Sanders criticize to everybody and they find spots everywhere. But what are the real solutions they can implement if they are elected presidents? 1 Recommendation 07/27/2015 01:13:31 PM

MY COMMENT: The news says Syrian President admitted his government has not enough forces to fight against the rebels.

Maybe the speech of Assad is an indirect call to the Iranians asking for troops and/or Hezbollah militants.

If this is the case, it will be easy for the Iranians the deployment of troops in Syria because they are fighting together with the Shiite militants in Iraq, next door. 07/26/2015 02:27:01 PM

MY COMMENT: The President Obama’s introduction as the first Kenyan-American president was exciting for the Kenyans, but the American constituents voted him as an American-American president.  1 Recommendation 07/26/2015 01:50:00 PM

MY COMMENT: Who said Benghazi’s case was closed? In Congress, the Benghazi Panel continues its investigation and again Ms. Clinton was call to testify.

This will be a difficult “test” for Hillary in the middle of the presidential campaign. 3 Recommendations 07/25/2015 03:54:45 PM

MY COMMENT: These are the American allies! Turkey attacks the Kurdish militants instead to focus its attacks on Islamic State.

With this movement, Turkey is complicating more the situation in the Middle-East and it is damaging the Kurdish front against ISIS. 1 Recommendation 07/25/2015 03:48:37 PM

MY COMMENT: During the last few days, newspapers of the United States, Europe and Australia talk about a series of incidents with drones. It is evident that the explosive growth of flying drones is creating problems.

Now, it is time the authorities define clear rules and create special law enforcement units to put order in the sky. In other case, the chaos will be huge. 1 Recommendation 07/24/2015 02:27:45 PM

MY COMMENT: After a series of poor financial results, Amazon came to the main scene with good news.

It posted the second-quarter 2015 financial results with sales of $23.18 billion and $92 million profit.

And something very important: the revenues of its unit of cloud services doubled. Amazon is growing as provider of cloud computing.

A day after the financial report, the market capitalization of Amazon soared more than $270 billion surpassing Wal-Mart.

In summary, Amazon is one of the few companies linked with the technology market that walked well during the last few days. 1 Recommendation 07/24/2015 02:15:58 PM

MY COMMENT: It is truth that Donald Trump is using his own money for the campaign, but after his aggressive statements against John McCain and others, the media directly or indirectly start to help him. 1 Recommendations 07/24/2015 01:58:34 PM

On The Calamity of Obama’s Iran Deal: (written by Mitt Romney)

Now, Mitt Romney is taking revenge on his old rival. His arguments against President Obama are hard. He named the Iran deal as the “calamity”. 3 Recommendations 07/23/2015 03:20:52 PM

MY COMMENT: Surely, Financial Times in the Japanese hands will have strong influence of Japanese brains.

Since long time, the Japanese newspaper Nikkei was showing a lot of interest to extend its business across the west part of the globe. 1 Recommendation 07/23/2015 03:11:01 PM

MY COMMENT: The good times of John Kerry dealing with the Iranians in European luxury hotels finished.

After his return home, John Kerry was call immediately for a hearing in Congress. Now, the Secretary of State will have to protect his face from the punches of the lawmakers. 1 Recommendation 07/23/2015 03:02:35 PM

BLOG COMMENTS: 2015/07/15 - 2015/07/22

MY COMMENT: The Yahoo’s financial results of its 2015 second quarter don’t show elements to determine trends.

Its revenues were $1.24 billion, +15% y/y: Good!

But it posted net loss of $21.6 million: Bad!

In summary, till now the company is the middle of changes and adjustments. 1 Recommendation 07/22/2015 03:03:17 PM

MY COMMENT: You say: “Iran Inspections in 24 days?” Now, it is late to talk of inspections. A lot of people including officials of different countries are traveling to Tehran for businesses.

Here, we have a sample: At less of a week of the signature of the nuclear agreement, Sigmar Gabriel, German minister of energy flew to Iran with a portfolio of 72 projects that implies 2.7 billion euros. The news was published in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on July 21.1 Recommendation 07/22/2015 01:59:52 PM

MY COMMENT: We have to recognize the Donald Trump is very smart. He always acts with a lot of aggressiveness in businesses and he likes to make circus.

But the presidential institution deserves more respect for the politicians and non-politicians who want to lead the country. 1 Recommendation 07/22/2015 01:44:35 PM

MY COMMENT: Wall Street hit Apple for a difference between expectations and real sales of iPhone. But if we compare the numbers of Apple, Microsoft, IBM and Intel, the conclusion is that Apple posted a good earnings report.

In general, the current earning season looks gloomy for the technology sector. 1 Recommendation 07/22/2015 01:26:21 PM

MY COMMENT: The three German luxury car brands – Audi, BMW, Daimler - have money to be non-depending of the Google Maps.

The price of $2.71 billion for Nokia Oy –digital mapping service - is not a high price for a common purchase of 3 buyers.

From the other side, they will have the possibility to gain experience in new technologies needed for the next generation of cars.  2 Recommendations 07/21/2015 02:31:38 PM

MY COMMENT: It is very regrettable to learn about the accounting scandal of the Toshiba.

Toshiba always was in the top list of the Japanese companies with a series of important computing products and also with technology for the different industrial and infrastructure sectors.

Till now is not clear if the accounting scandal will impact in a negative way the engineering and production sectors. 1 Recommendation 07/21/2015 01:25:09 PM

MY COMMENT: 16 candidates for the Republican nomination of the 2016 presidential election show a “fever” to be the new American president.

And in this list, in addition to Ohio Governor John Kasich, we see a series of important governors and former governors of key states.

Only one can be elected to represent the Republican Party. We have to hope the others after that collaborate with the nominated in the best way.

2016 election has to be the start of a new good cycle in Washington. During the last years, we suffered a lot of deceptions.  7 Recommendations 07/21/2015 12:59:59 PM

MY COMMENT: These are the main numbers of the IBM financial report posted yesterday on July 20:

- Q215 earnings: Revenues: $20.8 billion -13.5% y/y. Net Income: $3.34 -16.6% y/y.

Some days ago, Google posted also the results of its 2015 second quarter. Here, the Google’s figures:

- Q215 earnings: Revenues: $17.7 billion, +11% y/y. GAAP operating income: $4.8 billion, +27%.

Three or four years ago, we could not image that one day Google can surpass IBM. But if the Big Blue doesn’t find the way to recreate its business model soon, it will be under Google.

During the last years, IBM sold the majority of its classic units: PCs, Intel servers, hard disk drives, printers and printing solutions, semiconductors… And now with its new units, it doesn’t find the way to climb again. 1 Recommendation 07/21/2015 11:49:59 AM

MY COMMENT: Probably, with this initiative, Hillary Clinton tries to shorten ideological distance with her rival, Sanders, the enemy of the billionaires. .

From my point of view, the punishment of the short-term investors can produce negative reactions from the sector.

Always, when the investors see “hurdles” in one market, they look for other markets and/or alternatives. For example, when French President Hollande came to government, he tried to punish the rich French citizens and companies with high taxes, and a lot of them changed citizenship and/or legal addresses. 2 Recommendations 07/20/2015 2:22:35 PM

MY COMMENT: This is a political movement of the White House without the Congress support.

Till Congress votes, the fully lift of trade and travel embargoes are only in “draft”. And today Congress is not in the same line of President Obama. 2 Recommendations 07/20/2015 02:02:41 PM

MY COMMENT: This is a good idea, but in the case of Chattanooga is late.

In times of terrorism, all the military and government institutions have to be protected with security. 2 Recommendations 07/20/2015 01:51:57 PM

MY COMMENT: From my perspective, the problem is the “Islamist organizations” used as “branches” of terrorist groups.

Probably, these groups distribute Quran books together with pamphlets instigating to a “sacred war” against Christians and also brochures with terror doctrines and terrorist tactics.

The intelligent services have to look for terrorist literature in the place where Mr. Abdulazeez was living.

By the way, during the times of the Latin America guerrilla promoted by Cuba, a lot of materials with terror doctrine were circulating across the continent. 1 Recommendation 07/19/2015 03:04:47 PM

MY COMMENT: In a presidential campaign with the candidates that we have now, the effort will be huge and the money needed to support the race will climb in levels that we never saw before.

The current list of candidates includes a series of politicians with previous experiences as governors and in other government positions and very aggressive members of Congress.

From the other side, the people are tired for the current problems of Washington and everybody wants profound changes after 2016. 07/19/2015 02:39:39 PM

MY COMMENT: Hillary points against the Republicans to avoid reactions from Sanders.

But in future meetings, Sanders will go against Hillary because this is the only way that he has to put down the image of the candidate with more resources. If the current followers of Sanders see that he plays low, they will leave him. 2 Recommendations 07/18/2015 05:06:50 PM

MY COMMENT: Without any doubt, the shooting of Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez is a serious warning of the spread of the terror war everywhere including the United States.

We have to be alert across all the country every day, every night, in each moment. 1 Recommendation 07/18/2015 04:51:49 PM

MY COMMENT: The Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei tries to put down the United States in a way that is really a provocation.

In the end, the nuclear agreement was an act of weakness in front an enemy who vomits hate every time he speaks. 5 Recommendations 07/18/2015 04:44:36 PM

MY COMMENT: This is the effort of Angela Merkel to avoid the total Greece collapse, but a lot of Greeks don’t deserve the German support because during more than 10 years they did make nothing to improve their economy and finance. 07/17/2015 03:11:57 PM

MY COMMENT: It is not surprise that ObamaCare’s prices will keep surging. Everybody who knows a little about economy can see that normally the centralized systems reduce flexibility and blow up the figures for everybody.

For example, the users who care for their health and go to the doctor only for real health problems, they have to pay also for the others who everyday go to the doctor for thousands of minor problems. 1 Recommendation 07/17/2015 02:48:19 PM

MY COMMENT: It is evident that behind the double shooting there are other things.

Muhammad Abdulazeez was not a teenager who stole the guns of the father and went to the street to kill his teacher or somebody who hit him.

He planned the two shootings to military targets for special reasons: hate or the order that he received from other/s.

If he was crazy, his craziness was not a psychological problem of somebody who has social problems. Behind the craziness, we have to see evil and hate. 3 Recommendations 07/17/2015 02:27:40 PM

MY COMMENT: The information available is not enough to determine the reasons of the Chattanooga shootings.

The facts show that it is possible that the suspect Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez had something against members of the military forces. The question is “why”. The news doesn’t say if he had a previous incident with marines. Also we don’t know if he was linked with some special Muslim groups.

The way he acted shooting in two military facilities in the same day reflects a plan. They were not two causal shootings. 1 Recommendation 07/17/2015 10:14:50 AM

MY COMMENT: In the case of El Chapo, all is possible. Maybe the story the authorities of the jail are telling is not true and he escaped with the support of the guards in an easy way. (By the way, this is the second time that the Mexican drug lord escapes of a prison.) 07/16/2015 03:09:15 PM

MY COMMENT: As we said before, Sanders is a Robin Hood of the New Millennium. If all the poor people follow him, he will shake Washington. This doesn’t imply that he will be the new president. Till now, it is early to make forecasts. 1 Recommendation 07/16/2015 02:51:11 PM

MY COMMENT: Since Jeb Bush entered in the race, it looks like the final competition will be between Hillary and Jeb. However, it is early to make forecasts. 1 Recommendation 07/16/2015 02:07:38 PM

MY COMMENT: The European Central Bank is trying to help the Greece’s lenders reopen, while in the Athens streets the Greeks continue complaining and making riots. This is too much! 1 Recommendation 07/16/2015 01:24:55 PM

MY COMMENT: After a short journey across the newspapers of the world, the statement that “99% of the world community” agrees with the Iran nuclear deal looks not realistic. 8 Recommendations 07/16/2015 12:46:15 PM

BLOG COMMENTS: 2015/07/07 - 2015/07/15

MY COMMENT: In short, the nuclear agreement is a victory for Iran and the “red carpet” to its entrance in the Atomic Club.

If it violates the deal, U.S. alone will not able to take an effective action against Iran because it will need the support of Russia and China, something that is not probable.

Today, everyone smiles like good friends, tomorrow is another day.

After the aggressive attitude that the Iranian Supreme Leader showed several days ago, from my point of view, this agreement is humiliatingly. (He offended us. After that, we put down our head and we sign the document.) 2 Recommendations 07/15/2015 02:13:43 PM

MY COMMENT: Now, in the worst moment of the Greek crisis, Alexis Tsipras only cares for his personal ego.

He doesn’t assume the responsibility of the mess that he generated promising golden days to a country that is in bad shape since before it entered in the European Union and the euro-zone. 07/15/2015 07:14:43 AM

MY COMMENT: The story says that despite China expected a little less than 7% growth; this level is lower than the country was pointing.

From my perspective, if China wants to grow at high steps every quarter and every year, the government has to improve the levels of education for everybody everywhere across the country and gives more freedom to the citizens to deploy private initiatives without the control of corrupt local officials and the central government. (Till now, in the remote areas of the country, the poverty is high.)

The totalitarian regimes help to the countries to grow to the “level” the leaders can maintain the “brains” under their control.

But the totalitarian regimes suffocate the initiative of brilliant brains that can generate huge explosions of the society because they are risky for the survival of the leaders of the regime. 1 Recommendation 07/15/2015 07:00:18 AM

MY COMMENT: After a nine-year and a three billion-mile journey, a spacecraft from NASA is close the Pluto’s surface.

Independently of the results, the NASA efforts are valuable. We have to hope the data confirm the mission was successful. 4 Recommendations 07/14/2015 03:05:49 PM

MY COMMENT: An agreement without total consensus is a “paper” more for the dusty folders when the White House changes its titular. 3 Recommendations 07/14/2015 02:43:59 PM

MY COMMENT: This story says the profit of Google in the quarter that finished some weeks ago was lower than previous expectations due to a series of expenditures.

Google is a very active and innovative company. It always is running new projects, but some of its projects are not money machines. Costs without incomes don’t work well. 1 Recommendation 07/14/2015 02:18:34 PM

MY COMMENT: This story talks about the criticism of Joschka Fischer over the handling of the Greek crisis.
Joschka Fischer is not the best person to criticize Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), because he was the Germany’s foreign minister of the government led by Chancellor Gerhard Schoeder (SDP) when Greece was accepted in the euro-zone.

Two years ago, when the first Greek crisis started, in interview for the prestigious Der Spiegel Magazine, Gerhard Schoeder recognized that in 2001 when he was German Chancellor, Germany didn’t pay enough attention about the very bad financial shape of Greece before it received the okay to enter to the euro-zone. Maybe Joschka Fischer never read the “mea culpa” of Schoeder.

For the “Greens” like Joschka Fischer always is easy to criticize other politicians generating bad waves through the media. But in the end, they never offer realistic solutions for complex problems. 17 Recommendations 07/12/2015 01:32:32 PM

MY COMMENT: Today Paraguay is a poor country. After the war it lost against Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, it never recovered the power it had in the past.

It is good that in his trip to Asuncion, Pope Francis remembered this terrible episode of the History of South America that was a big genocide. Only women, children and elders survived. 1 Recommendation 07/11/2015 07:50:20 PM

MY COMMENT: Who is the Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to call the U.S. the “ultimate embodiment of arrogance”?

The Iranians want the deal but they don’t want to accept the conditions of the negotiators.

Really, the best is to stop the negotiation. The western countries don’t have to lose their time dealing with the diplomatic people of the arrogant Iranian supreme leader. 5 Recommendations 07/11/2015 07:27:37 PM

MY COMMENT: When a country – in this case, Greece - wants to live together with other countries in a community, it has to respect the rules of the community.

The community of countries has its pros and cons. And Europe as a community, it is a very complicated case because each European country has a long history and a lot of traditions with a lot of conflicts among them.

But it is not possible that now Greece is creating problems to the other members of the EU.

If the Greeks don’t want to accept the rules of the EU, they have to walk away of this community assuming all their risks alone. 3 Recommendations 07/11/2015 07:14:39 PM

MY COMMENT: The simple resign of OPM Director Katherine Archuleta lets an “administrative corpse” that will not fix the big “leak” of information related to  millions of federal employee records hacked.

Irony: In China or North Korea, an official involved in this kind of negligence goes to jail or is executed… 6 Recommendations 07/10/2015 01:18:54 PM

MY COMMENT: The affair of the OPM’s information hacked is a huge example of federal government incompetence, but probably, it will be not the last. 1 Recommendation 07/10/2015 01:32:13 PM

MY COMMENT: The story remarks that Chinese President Xi Jinping faces a rare backlash due to some economic figures of his country that don’t look well.

It is clear that when the world economic competition is hard, the autocratic leaderships reduce flexibility of the economic systems of its countries.

President Xi Jinping will have to change his style if he wants to stay in the head of China for long time. 0 Recommendations 07/09/2015 03:32:22 PM

MY COMMENT: The artificial intelligence is not new and it is embedded in financial operations since long time ago.

The new software and computers have more power and better features than in the past.

This trend will continue step by step. Nobody will stop the implementation of next generations of artificial intelligence systems associated with the financial operations and the evaluation of stocks.

However, a stock analyst always will be able to reflect more sensitivity in the evaluation of financial results than the “robots”. 1 Recommendation 07/09/2015 03:21:03 PM

MY COMMENT: The news from Ford that it is moving the small car production outside U.S. has pros and cons.

The movement of a production plant outside U.S. implies fewer jobs in U.S. if the car maker does not assign the current American workers to new manufacturing projects in the country. 07/09/2015 02:58:41 PM

MY COMMENT: The problem of the Syrian minorities is not new. Since the revolution started in 2011, they are in the middle of the confrontation of different groups, but close to President Bashar al-Assad.

Of course, the advance of the Islamic State put them in a worse situation than before.

The ISIS militants are terrible cruel against all they consider enemies, in special if these people are Christians. The current situation of the Syrian minorities is dramatic. 7/09/2015 02:43:03 PM

MY COMMENT: After Bernie Sanders started his campaign for the Democratic nomination of the 2016 presidential elections, a lot of observers feel surprised. Before, nobody expected that the Vermont senator could generate echo in the population.

Bernie Sanders has nothing to lose and he can create problems to Hillary. He is acting like the American “Robin Hood” of the 2016 election.

The question is how many of the poor people are really in conditions to vote and looking for a new different alternative.  3 Recommendations 07/08/2015 03:18:33 PM

MY COMMENT: The new Microsoft CEO is reviewing the Nokia purchase with hard initiatives.

The Nokia acquisition was a crazy fantasy of the previous CEO, Steve Ballmer. It is not the fault of the Nokia’s employees that come to Microsoft with the purchase.

The cut of 7,800 jobs is a bad news, but today it is normal that when a company wants to reduce costs, its first action is to see the payroll and decide how many employees will go to the street. 1 Recommendation 07/08/2015 03:02:54 PM

MY COMMENT: It is looks strange that the Vietnam’s Communist Party Chief came as a visitor to the White House.

In the photo for the press of the Vietnamese leader and President Obama, they are smiling like they are friends from long time. 1 Recommendation 07/08/2015 12:02:13 PM
