RETHINKING - FEBRUARY 27, 2022 - PUTIN'S NUCLEAR WEAPONS

The Wall Street Journal wrote "Ukrainian Forces Hold Kyiv as Talks with Russia Are Planned, Putin puts nuclear-deterrence forces on alert, Western responses against Moscow mount"

My opinion: The West cannot remain on the side if Russia uses nuclear weapons. If NATO doesn't act in the right time, all EUROPE will be at risk.

RETHINKING - FEBRUARY 24TH, 2022 - Mr. Putin is not afraid

Today I listened to President Biden's press conference about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Mr. Biden talked about sanctions and sanctions and sanctions.

Some political observers and analysts agree with the American President.

I am not an expert in the United States relationships with enemy countries, but I disagree with President Biden.

For this reason, I looked for a place to post my opinion in the WSJ Community of Blog Members.

This is the comment that I posted: "Economic and financial sanctions don't intimidate Mr. Putin. The Russian leader has strong resolution and very clear targets. He is prepared to surpass the consequences of the sanctions and he has partners like China that will help."

In minutes after I posted my comment, I received a series of LIKED.

RETHINKING - FEBRUARY 23, 2022 - SANCTIONS THAT HURT

The last events in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine put the Western leaders in front of a new reality, the official start of the Cold War II.

During the last decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Western countries thought that peaceful relationships with Russia were possible.

But after the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2012 and the assault on Crimea in 2014, some of the leaders and politicians of the United States and Europe began to think that under the Putin regime, Russia will continue acting as the worst enemy of the West.

In an interesting opinion column of the Editorial Board of the Wall Street Journal titled "The ’80s Got Their Foreign Policy Back" we read "As Vladimir Putin considers how much of Ukraine to conquer, it’s worth recalling a moment when a U.S. presidential candidate was ridiculed by his opponent for being right about the Russian autocrat. We’re referring to Mitt Romney, the GOP nominee in 2012, who said at the time that Russia was America’s main geopolitical foe."

In a new WSJ Editorial Board column from yesterday - February 22, 2022 - titled "With Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine, a New Cold War Arrives", we learn "U.S. and European sanctions are still too weak against Putin."

This column put on the table an important step that Germany is taking in response to the Russian invasion of East Ukraine: "The most encouraging surprise came from Germany, which said it is halting the certification for Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline for now."

I am not an expert in Russian politics, however my blog comment under the second WSJ column says that the " Sanctions have to produce pain in the top of the Kremlin."

Other members of the WSJ Members Community had agreed with my comment posting LIKED answers.

RETHINKING - FEBRUARY 19, 2022 - PROVOCATIONS GOING TO END BAD

The Wall Street Journal in a long story about the last events in between Russia and Ukraine commented that in the East Ukraine were killed two Ukrainian soldiers.

The story titled "Russian Proxies in Eastern Ukraine Mobilize Troops, Kill Two Ukrainian Soldiers" was written by Yaroslav Trofimov, Alan Cullison and Thomas Grove.

As we see, Russians are fabricating a provocation to generate panic in the civilian population.

"The Russian-led breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine mobilized able-bodied men against what they said was an imminent attack by Kyiv, as shelling across the front line intensified, killing two Ukrainian soldiers."

"Kyiv dismissed the call-up and moved to evacuate civilian residents of Russian-held Donetsk and Luhansk areas to Russia as a provocation.“

My opinion posted in the blog section of the WSJ story was: "The provocations can submerge Ukrainians and Russians in a cruel war..."

RETHINKING - FEBRUARY 16, 2022 - PUTIN GAME: WAR/PEACE

After the meeting between the new German Chancellor and President Putin, the DW news from Germany posted good comments about the results of this personal encounter in Moscow with these words "Chancellor Olaf Scholz holds fruitful talks in Moscow."

Next, The Wall Street Journal published a story about the latest news from Moscow with this title "Russia Says Some Troops Pulling Back From Ukraine Border, as Diplomatic Solution Sought."

Till now, I don't believe that President Putin really will move his troops away from the Ukrainian border.

With this perception, I posted in WSJ Online the following blog comment: "Russia continues playing with all the western leaders that try to put "peace" over the negotiation table."

RETHINKING - FEBRUARY 12, 2022 - THE SPIRIT OF THE BEIJING OLYMPICS

The Wall Street Journal posted an interesting rethinking of the columnist Daniel Henninger in a opinion column titled "Let’s Turn Off the Olympics"

Mr. Henninger starts with these words "Needless to say, I won’t be watching the Winter Olympics in China, where it’s winter, every day for the human spirit. Best of luck to our athletes, who are sentenced to performing in whichever country the endlessly disagreeable International Olympic Committee chooses. "

This was my rethinking about the Beijing Olympics posted as a blog comment in the bottom of Mr. Henninger’s column: "An Olympic event used as political propaganda of a totalitarian regime doesn't deserve to be followed..."

RETHINKING - FEBRUARY 11, 2022 - REPUBLICANS DIVISION

In her WSJ weekly column, the journalist Peggy Noonan posted on February 10, 2022, an opinion column titled “Republicans, Stand Against Excess”.

In this column, Ms. Noonan says “Be the party of the big center—of normal, regular people—against the forces of ideology assailing them."

A lot of readers answered about this subject with diverse opinions. Some of them attack former President Trump with hard words, others defend him and the attack of Congress on January 6, 2022.

The extreme answer suggests that former vice president Mike Pence must be hanged because he followed the American Constitution principles and didn't stop the certification of the 2020 election.

I think different from the people who suggested violent actions in one or other direction.

This is what I posted in the WSJ blog comment: “The subject that Peggy Noonan put on the table is to rethink the current political moment of the United States. The authentic Republicans must stand against excess from the two sides.”

RETHINKING - FEBRUARY 9, 2022 - RUSSIA-CHINA AXIS

Few days ago, in the inauguration of the Beijing Winter Olympics. China’s President Xi met Russia’s President Putin in an encounter that will be historic. According to the observers, the Olympic event gave the opportunity to a meeting with geopolitics implications.

After this historic meeting, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal posted a series of columns and stories about the new Russia-China Axis.

William A Galston, WSJ columnist, wrote an opinion column titled “The New Axis of Autocracy”.

As we know, autocracy is “a form of government in which a country is ruled by a person or group with total power” or “a country that is ruled by a person or group with total power” (Merriam-Webster).

In the February 4 meeting in Beijing between Vladimir Putin and President Xi makes it official that both autocrats are together to try to bend neighboring countries and end the freedom of their people.

About this new situation, Mr. Galston said “What Russia and China have in common now is more important than what has divided them in the past. They reject the postwar economic and political order that the U.S. and its allies created. They are revanchist powers determined to regain territories they believe were separated unjustly from their homelands. They endured extended periods of national humiliation, which they are replacing with assertive national pride. And they see democracy as a threat, both inside and outside their borders.”

This is my blog comment of “The New Axis of Autocracy”: “While the U.S. and Europe were sleeping in the old glories of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Russia worked hard to rebuild its military power. Now, China is joining the Russians with the intention of working together in the oppression of the freedom of the neighbors and in the fight against the authentic democracies of the world.

From my view, Mike Pence is not dead because he has the US Constitution on his side, and this is the most valuable pillar of an honorable politician.
It is obvious that the worker absences stop the economic growth of the country.
China is manipulating the Olympics with political purposes. We must ignore the results of these Games.
Progressives are damaging the Democrat party and the President. But the worst is that they are generating more divisions in the country.
The WSJ Editorial Board is right when it says "Not all Republicans agree with Ms. Cheney and Mr. Kinzinger, but some do. By the same token, not all Democrats agree with Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, but some do. When political parties

India is a huge country with potential to be a great country, but till now, it is weak compared with China and a possible association between China and Russia.
To give Mr. Putin what he wants is a new weakness signal.
A lot of police officers and security officers from private security companies are victims of the aggression of bad guys.
President Putin is in a hard position. He accuses NATO and the United States of provocation. He doesn't show willingness to move the 100,000 away from the Ukrainian border. With this scenario, it is not possible to see a peaceful agreement.
It is easy to enjoy the life of the colleges and universities with the money of the taxpayers.
President Xi cares for his personal glory.
Americans are losing the pride of being Americans.
The threats of President Putin against Ukraine make him the enemy of the Europeans who want to live in peace and prosperity. And Ukrainians will frustrate his goal of rebuilding the Soviet Union.
The criteria to select the members of the Supreme Court by race and gender will create more division also inside the top justice institution of the country. Wrong!
During the last years, the hurricanes hit the Gulf of Mexico and the Northeast coasts.
Good comment. Thank you for sharing your traveling experience to Ukraine.
The criteria that President Biden is using to nominate the Justice that will cover the vacancy of Stephen Breyer is a discrimination against the best candidates to integrate the U.S. Supreme Court.
Probably Democrats are forcing Justice Stephen Breyer to retire before they lose the control of the Congress.
During the last few years, the social media made an intentional campaign to put down the police as the institution of the enforcement of the law. Now, we see the consequences.
President Putin went very far to return his troops to its garrisons without fight.
Very regrettable, but steal cars is part of the business of the car industry.
If the American education does not teach higher math, we will have to import all the scientists from abroad.  The higher math is one of the pillars of the scientific innovation. and the advanced technological disciplines.
The semiconductors industry always goes forward. And the advance in microchips impacts in all the other sectors of the technology. In addition, the technology is pushing ahead other industries.
This battle that President Biden lost is worse than Afghanistan because it shows a big miscalculation.
About the Peggy Noonan introduction of this column, I think President Biden looks more than tired.
Maybe you are right, but the majority of the WSJ readers think different.
The majority of the tech mergers end with the identity of the acquired company .
Expanding NATO with a series of passive members is wrong. The situation is different if all the members are active and make good contributions in money and troops.
Russia and China want to dominate the world, bending the free people under the boots of their troops.

Britons like to generate "scandals" for secondary problems.
You are right.
From my view, the Kazakhstan crisis is in the Putin’s expansion plans.
We will never know the truth about the vaccines' effect.
Nord Stream 2 is a Putin's weapon to recover part of Europe.
Today the Catholicism doesn't solve the problems of the poor people in the same way of decades ago.
We are familiar with this kind of resignation.
Peggy, you say: "The current moment is much like 20 months ago. " From my view, a lot of people want to continue like 20 months ago. . Covid-19 is a good business for some sectors of the society and the power.
Another scandal!
President Putin always does what he wants.  Nobody stopped him during the last decade.
You wrote "the lawyers said the men didn’t intend to kill Mr. Arbery.", but they killed him.

It looks like the President is a   "Progressive" Jail.  He signs all the Progressive politicians want.
Putin wants to be the new Emperor of the Eastern Europe. His ambitions are not only for Ukraine. He pursues to recover all the Soviet nations.
David, it is good that we agree.
Russia and China attack in one or another way the countries who fight for freedom and democracy.
Beijing always looks for new opportunities to gain terrain and power.
It is not new that Biden was a deception for everybody including the Democrats.
You cannot put in the same basket: 1) obese people 2) people who have not done anything for themselves 3)  normal elders. The normal elders are very different from obese people and the negligent peoples about their health.
I traveled across the world and lived in Europe per years. In contact with Russians, Muslims, Iranians, Chinese and citizens of other countries, I learned about the hate that Russian, Chinese and Iranians have for America.
In this case, President Biden is following the mandate of external powers like the WHO.
It is correct, Kamala Harris has not clear convictions.
Angela Merkel made a mistake that the next generation of Germans will pay hard.  She stopped the nuclear energy programs and agreed with the Nord Stream 2 of the Russians.
The progressivism will end with our American culture.

Maybe, you are right. However, Vladimir Putin is not the "Iron Man" that the media paints.. If he continues opening "battle fronts" in the domestic and international fields, he will become vulnerable. The Soviet's times are past.
Europe and also the U.S. has been sleeping for years in the victory of the West when the Iron Wall fell. Meanwhile, under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, Russia started to rebuild the military power of the Soviet Union. And now, the NATO members
