RETHINKING - JULY 31, 2022 - ENERGY CRISIS

Yesterday, July 30, 2022, the Wall Street Journal posted a story titled "America's New Energy Crisis" by By Christopher M. Matthews and Katherine Blunt,

The story starts "America is wrestling with the worst energy crisis in nearly five decades, a period of high prices and limited supply. What makes this crisis different than the troubles that roiled the country in the 1970s is how it started and the fixes required to make it end."

In the blog section of the WSJ Online, I posted a comment that received a series of LIKED from other members of the WSJ Community.

This is my comment: " The current American energy crisis shows the incapacity of the politicians to act in a pragmatic way.".

RETHINKING - JULY 27, 2022 - GOING TO THE LEFT

Last week, on July 24, 2022, The Wall Street Journal posted an interesting story about the political evolution of South America and Central America with an advanced movement to the left side of the political spectrum.

The story titled “Is Panama Next for a Hard Left Turn?” was written for the columnist Mary Anastasia O’Grady, expert in Latin America political issues.

Like always, I posted my blog comment in the WSJ Online that received a series of LIKES from other members of the WSJ Community.

This was my observation:

“While during decades, the American politicians were living in the belief that all citizens of the American continent follow the western ideals, Cuba and its allies have been working to move the mentality of the Latinos to the left. Now, the Fidel and Che preaches show the results.”

RETHINKING - JULY 23, 2022 - SUSPICIOUS WILDFIRES

RETHINKING - JULY 22, 2022 - BETTER CANDIDATES

The Wall Street Journal published a story titled “The Only Thing That Can Re-Elect Joe Biden Is Donald Trump” written by Jason L. Riley.

As we see, journalists and media in general only think about a new election between Biden and Trump.

Personally, I think that from now to November 2024, the United States can find better alternatives than a new competition, Biden-Trump.

My opinion comment in the blog of WSJ Online was:

Americans have to think about the future supporting politicians that can renovate the White House and better candidates who have competed against each other in 2020.

We really need a deep change in the mentality of the leaders who have to confront serious problems like Russia, China, Iran and domestic issues like energy, social violence and climate change.

RETHINKING - JULY 20, 2022 - ITALIAN FRAGILITY

Today – July 20, 2022 – The Wall Street Journal posted a story titled “Italy’s Mario Draghi Likely to Resign Despite Winning Confidence Vote” by Eric Sylvers.

The story starts “Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi will likely resign despite winning a confidence vote in the Senate on Wednesday, putting an end to a national unity government that lasted almost 1½ years. / Mr. Draghi won the vote, but mass abstentions by three large parties indicated he no longer has the support of a majority of Parliament. Mr. Draghi could resign in the coming days after meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella. / The vote came after Mr. Draghi made an appeal to senators to back him so he could continue with his reform-minded agenda until the next scheduled national election in the spring.”

TWITTER: This was my comment: “#WR: In Italy, nobody rules the country for a long time.”

In 4 hours, my comment received 467 impressions and 13 engagements and 2 likes that show a lot of readers have similar concerns like me.

RETHINKING - JULY 16, 2022 - WESTERN TECHNOLOGY IN UKRAINE

The Wall Street Journal posted an interesting story about the technological support of the western companies to Ukraine in this time of war with Russia.

The story was titled “Ukraine Leans on Elon Musk’s Starlink in Fight Against Russia”

The authors of the story, Yaroslav Trofimov , Micah Maidenberg and Drew FitzGerald, wrote “SpaceX’s satellite internet service has kept front-line troops connected where regular cell networks failed, officials say”

And after that, they explain “Along much of the Ukraine-Russia front line, commercial cell phone towers providing voice and internet service have been knocked out by power outages, Russian shells and jamming.”

But Elon Musk’s Starlink service, which provides internet connectivity using a swarm of satellites, is up and running here. Mr. Musk has sent thousands of kits into Ukraine, turning the country into a high-profile testing ground for the service, which he is trying to sell in other countries around the world.

Ukrainian officials and officers at headquarters and in the field credit Starlink with keeping their forces connected.

“Without Starlink, we would have been losing the war already,” said one platoon commander on the Izyum front, where Russian forces are trying to push south to capture the Donbas region.”

In the blog section of the WSJ Online I posted the following comment:

“Without the technology and intelligence of Western leaders, Ukraine would have fallen into Russian hands on the first day of the war.”

A group of members of the WSJ Blog Community approved my comment with LIKED.

RETHINKING - JULY 3, 2022 - CONSTITUTION AND ABORTION

Two days ago, The Wall Street Journal published a very interesting Editorial column titled “A Court for the Constitution”.

One of the subjects of this column was about the position of the Supreme Court related to the abortion.

This is part of the Editorial says about the position of the Court in relation with the controversial issue:

“As Justice Brett Kavanaugh put it, “the Constitution is neutral on the issue of abortion.” Policy will now be set by legislators in the states as informed by voters, subject to a low-level of legal review known as the “rational basis” test.”

I think this comment is a good observation, despite a lot of people don’t understand.

RETHINKING - JULY 1ST, 2022 - PARADISE CONVERTED INTO A JAIL

Twenty-five years ago, the United Kingdom handed Hong Kong over to China. About this issue the Wall Street Journal published a story titled “The Hong Kong Handover at 25” by Benedict Rogers.

This story starts “China has turned one of Asia’s freest cities into a grim police state.”

“When the U.K. handed Hong Kong over to China on July 1, 1997, the city was one of Asia’s freest and most open. Now it is a repressive police state.”

This was my opinion posted in the blog section of WSJ Online:

“The current repression against the Hong Kong citizens is one of the examples of the marvels of the Communist paradises. “

Today, Hong Kong is a former paradise of freedom converted into a grim jail.
