In the last few days, we have been reading a lot
of news and opinions about the Chinese invasion of Taiwan.
Nobody expected that
President Xi had the aggression to send military airplanes that flew over the
Taiwanese sky a few days ago, but he did.
Mr. Galston wrote “Beijing’s
growing belligerence coincides with declining U.S. military power.” “The West
won the Cold War without firing a shot, but the intensifying struggle with
China may not end so well. The record number of Chinese military aircraft
flying near Taiwan last week raised alarm bells—and questions.”
My comment in the blog
sector of the WSJ was:
“It is difficult to give
the right answer to the question of this opinion column. The recent events in
Afghanistan showed that the United States looks in a weak situation to start a
new war.”
