RETHINKING - NOVEMBER 30, 2021 - WILL AMERICA DEFEND THE PACIFIC?

An exclusive story from the Wall Street Journal titled “Pentagon Plans to Improve Airfields in Guam and Australia to Confront China” by Gordon Lubold put on the table an important issue. (November 29, 2021)

The story started with the following paragraphs:

“A Pentagon review of military resources world-wide plans to make improvements to airfields in Guam and Australia to counter China but contains no major reshuffling of forces as the U.S. moves to take on Beijing while deterring Russia and fighting terrorism in the Middle East and Africa.

The review, an unclassified summary of which was released Monday, aims to sharpen the link between U.S.’s vast military capabilities and the Biden administration’s strategic priorities—countering China’s military buildup and more assertive use of power chief among them."

My first reaction when I read this story was to post the following blog--comment:

“This initiative is more than necessary. We need a strong presence in the Pacific due to the aggressive attitude of China.”

After positive feedback from a group of WSJ readers, I added the following:

“I agree that we are in a terrible shape as a nation, with dangerous dependence from China. We need urgently to start to reverse this situation.”

My pending point is: Will America defend the Pacific against the aggression of the Big Asian Dragon?

History shows that Americans spilt a lot of blood in the water and lands of the Pacific fighting for the freedom of the countries of the region and defending the United States own territories.

We must pray God bless America and our leaders make all the necessary to crown this challenge in a crucial victory.
