WORLDRETHINK: Twitter tour on June 5, 2020 - Results of Remote Learning

What were the results of the remote learning due to COVID-19? This question is related to a study launched by The Wall Street Journal through a story titled “The Results Are in for Remote Learning: It Didn’t Work” by T.D.Hobbs and L.Hawkins, (June 5, 2020).

WSJ wrote ““Even though many students these days are tech savvy, that doesn’t assure they will do well with remote learning. Some education experts say there is a huge gap between what students can do for fun on their cellphones and gaming systems and how good they are at using a device for educational tasks such as reading a document, answering a question or figuring out a problem. “

Additionally, WSJ said ““School districts and teachers had previously used forms of online learning to made the transition more easily. But many educators, even those comfortable with the method, say remote learning isn’t comparable to in-person teaching.”

My point: Nobody was prepared to move the classroom to Internet in the way the educational authorities did.

Remote learning is an educational tool to help to teach students away the classroom, but it doesn’t replace the teacher and the classroom environment.

Today, technology has a lot of resorces to use in the education, however the remote learning requests a detail programming developed by experts in education and in computer systems.

A good teacher who doesn’t know how the technology tools work cannot move his/her classroom to Internet without the advice of expert in the tools like Zoom or the packages offered by Cisco, Microsoft, Google and others.

The majority of the bloggers who wrote about The Wall Street Journal analysis agree in these points.

Myself, I think we can advance in the remote learning to achieve better results. But we have to work carefully to focus the education of children in different way from the education of adult.

The frustration of teachers, parents and students for the rush to the remote learning due to the COVID-19 ask to retake the educational projects step by step and with a lot of seriously. .

Nevertheless we have to have in clear that the teacher never will be replaced by computerized systems and Internet in a 100%.
