RETHINKING - August 18, 2021 - Who will protect Afghan women and girls?

The Editorial Board of WSJ in an opinion column titled "The Global Elite's Afghanistan Withdrawal" makes an important observation.

The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in an emergency session of the Security Council on Monday said: “The world is watching. We cannot and must not abandon the people of Afghanistan. It is essential that the hard-won rights of Afghan women and girls are protected.”

After that, WSJ says " The real question isn’t what Mr. Guterres or anyone else at the U.N. will do substantively to protect Afghanistan’s women and girls or other vulnerable individuals. The answer is nothing."

In previous tragic events of the last few decades,  we saw that the United Nations and its leaders only made good declarations but nothing more. What can we expect in this case?
