Dear Friends:
In Alabama
special election to fill the seat vacated by U.S. Attorney General Jeff
Sessions, the Democrat Doug Jones won against the controversial Roy Moore who
was nominee by the Republican Party.
Roy Moore is former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of
Alabama. During the Senate campaign, three women accused him that he had
sexually assaulted them when they were teenagers, including one who was 14 at
the time.
Doug Jones is an attorney who has served as a federal
prosecutor. He served as the United States Attorney for the Northern District
of Alabama from 1997 to 2001.
Alabama is a
southern state of the United States,
normally categorized as “red” because frequently its constituents vote for the
Republican candidates .Now, Doug Jones became the first Democrat elected to the
Senate from Alabama since 1992.
(Please read: “RETHINKING: Alabamians
Show Preference for Red” by Domingo Trassens, a political analysis that explain
about the Alabamian preferences for the Republican Party. http://world-rethink.blogspot.com/2017/12/rethinking-alabamians-show-preference.html
)
Despite the
qualifications of Doug Jones, in this case, its victory shows the increasing
power of sexual misconduct allegations in the current political moment.
By the way, days
before to the Alabama elections, two Democrat members of Congress were forced to resign to
their respective seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and in the Senate.
During all the campaign, Roy Moore could not clean his stain
of sexual misconduct in special for the sexually assault to a woman who was 14
at the time that he was judge in Alabama.
A lot of Republicans asked him to resign to the nomination
and he refused. President Donald Trump endorsed candidate Moore a week before
the election, and some Republican members of Congress withdrew their initial
opposition to the candidate.
But the campaign related to the sexual misconduct continued
to the Election Day. And a lot of African-Americans who normally don't vote,
they were to the voting places to put their votes for Doug Jones.
The Moore vs.
Jones voting in this circumstance became a “plebiscite” (1), a vote by which the Alabamians expressed opinion
against the sexual harassment and assault.
This vote also
showed the limits of President Trump’s political influence and the duality of
the Republican leaders of Congress.
Donald Trump
supported Roy Moore and other Republicans acted in passive way about an issue
that today is coming very important in the decisions of the people: the sexual
misconduct.
The merit of this
victory didn’t come because Doug Jones is Democrat. The factors were the sexual
misconduct and the rebellion of women and men against the politicians who have
bad personal practices and low ethical principles.
In summary, the
defeat of Roy Moore was the punishment of the voters against the abuse of the
power of the politicians and the unethical behaviors of them.

Alabama loss demonstrated that till now U.S. is a democracy and the voters have the last
word.
If Pres. Trump and
GOP don’t want a bloody defeat in the next elections, they have to start to
work with more responsibility. From January to now, Washington was a joke!
(Important to
remark, the anxiety came for the negative attitude of White House and Congress
including the Democrat lawmakers.)

The victory of the
Democrat Doug Jones was not a “democratic victory” in the real sense.
It was the
punishment of the voters against the abuse of power of the politicians and the
non-ethical behaviors of them.
And from now,
Republicans and Democrats have to force the resignation of all the members of
Congress involved in sexual harassment.

Politicians and
members of the government institutions have to improve their vocabulary at
least when they write documents and speak in public. The word
"idiot" is not appropriated to an official level.

Attention! The
victory of Democrat Doug Jones is not a victory of the Democrats in the real
sense.
Mr. Jones had also
the support of some Republicans who were against Roy Moore and a lot of people
who are upset with the current political situation, but they are independent.

Alabama voting was a plebiscite against sexual
harassment, the current White House policy and the GOP Senate leadership. The
three lost.
