Dear Friends:
Today, December 25, we
celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus, or the day of the Nativity of Jesus.
This is the reason,
that in a lot of Christmas cards, we see the image of a small child – Jesus -
in a crib in a remote place of the Middle East.
This is the nativity scene. And this the first shot of our cameras when we want
to remember something of History around Christmas.
However, for a lot
of people, Christmas is a big tree with colorful lights and a lot of gifts. It
is the day when the children receive special presents from the parents and
family; and also the day when the adults exchange gifts and celebrate with a
dinner or very exquisite meals.
If we walk through
the world with a camera of journalist, today we will find Christmas trees with
brilliant lights and gifts also in the East countries - like Japan and China - and in some of Muslim communities of the Middle East. (In recent day, the social media showed
some shots of these countries.)
The Nativity of
Jesus has other meanings for the historians and the intellectual and academic
people, some of them, not Christians.
For the Christian
scholars, Christmas is the start of the Christianity, a religion that preaches
peace, equality and freedom, and condemns the bondage.
For the other
scholars, Christmas is the “symbolic birth” of a new leader who was preaching
peace instead of war and who was pushing new social principles. If we read the
Bible, we will find a lot of samples of the doctrine of this leader tried to
teach to the human beings. (For this reason, his enemies considered him as a
dangerous revolutionary.)
In summary,
according to the “shot” that we make with the camera, we will find the meanings
of Christmas transcend the simple Christmas tree with brilliant lights of
different colors and a lot of gifts.
Independently, of
your own vision of Christmas, my best wishes of peace of happiness.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
