RETHINKING: Tax Bill Showed Congress’ Fissures

Dear Friends:

Today, Tuesday December 19, 2017 during the afternoon, the House of Representatives passed the GOP tax-overhaul bill on a voting of 227 against 203.

During the evening, the Senate is voting the same bill that it is a overhaul version of the previous Senate and House bills plus all the changes made due to the requests of some Senators and Representatives.

Democrats didn’t vote in the House of Representatives and they will not vote in the Senate for the bill according to the information that is public.

Normally, in these cases some of the members of the opposition work together with majority and they vote for the bill. In this opportunity the refuse to was total.

But the interesting issue is that also 12 Republicans of the House of the Representatives dissented with the bill and they didn’t vote the overhaul version.

In the Senate, after a series of negotiations the GOP Senators who voted for “no” in the first session, in the end agreed.

In summary, during all the current year, the Congress was blocked in its actions for a series of fissures.

And nothing indicates that the situation will change during the next year. This implies that fissures will continue and maybe they will extend because 2018 is middle-term election year.

More fissures in Congress: In the House of Representatives, there are 12 dissenting Republicans about the tax code bill.

(In other words, 12 Republican Representatives voted together with all the Democrat Representatives against the tax bill. However, the bill passed 227 against 203. The 227 were the other Republican Representatives.)

There is possible that existed collusion (x) between Trump Campaign and Russia. However, Donald Trump won the presidential election due to his persuasive techniques.

(In the last few days, everybody is talking about the “WannaCry” cyber-attack and some sources confirmed that the attack was perpetrated for North Korean hackers.)

My comment: We cannot expect the North Koreans send us lovely messages.

We are in the middle of a “cold war” with North Korea and this cyber-attack was only part of this conflict.

(Due to all the problems U.S. has with the Chinese, some of the WSJ readers suggest to cut our relationships with them.)

My comment: Today, in the economic sense, China needs us and we need from Chinese. This makes very difficult to cut completely the political relationships because the commercial relationships are interlaced.

Chinese don't buy commodities from US, but they have all the technology licenses that are from US. If we cut with them, our companies will lose all the royalties, but they will continue working with our technology.

Without IBM, HP and MicrosoftChina couldn't build the huge IT infrastructure they have today.

After we read a series of analysis from experts, the conclusion is that the new tax code bill is not a “Christmas gift”. It is only a new tax code with pros and cons.

The questions related to the derailed Amtrak train are three:
- Was it a human mistake?
- Was it a technical problem?
- Was it a technical problem and human mistake?
After the investigation we will not the truth.
