The Ukraine-Russia war is giving us a lot of surprises. Everybody including President Putin was thinking that the invasion of Ukraine could be a military parade from Moscow to Kyiv. This was the first miscalculation.
Nobody thought the Ukrainians could stop the Russian tanks in advance with their patriotic attitude.
Another surprise was the invasion of NATO drones in the battlefield on the side of the Ukrainians.
Today Deutsche Welle posted an interesting story titled: “Ukraine: How drones are changing the way of war.”
This story written by German journalists starts with the following paragraph: “Drones meet the requirements of modern warfare — that's the line from the US Department of Defense. And the Pentagon says it has just the drone to meet all of Ukraine's requirements. It's a new drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), called Phoenix Ghost.”
Deutsche Welle also wrote: “"We believed this particular system would very nicely suit their needs, particularly in eastern Ukraine," Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said in a press briefing. Kirby said the US had started developing the Phoenix Ghost before the outbreak of war and that work would now be accelerated to meet Ukraine's requirements even better."
My opinion: I think Mr. Putin and the Russians generals who planned the invasion didn’t expect that the Ukrainians would fight together with drones against their tanks and armored vehicles.
