RETHINKING - MAY 4, 2022 - Is Pope Francis a friend of Mr. Putin?

Yesterday May 3, 2022, the Wall Street Journal posted an opinion column of the Editorial Board based on an interview of an Italian newspaper to Pope Francis about the Russian invasion of Ukraine titled "Pope Francis blames NATO.

This is a paragraph of the WSJ Online column: "Francis suggested that perhaps “NATO barking at Russia’s gate” had caused Mr. Putin to invade his neighbor, which doesn’t belong to the alliance. “I have no way of telling whether his rage has been provoked,” he continued. “but I suspect it was maybe facilitated by the West’s attitude.” Asked whether it was right to send weapons to Ukraine to defend itself, the Pope said, “I don’t know,” before criticizing the global arms trade."

These are my blog comments after I read the WSJ Online opinion column:

"If really all about the opinions of Pope Francis, his political position on international issues is completely wrong."

"It is shameful that Pope Francis is criticizing NATO instead of Mr. Putin. Is the Pope a friend of Putin? In what business is the Catholic leader?"

Both blog comments received the approval of a series of members of the WSJ Community with LIKED.
