BLOG COMMENTS: Laptop Ban on Travels from Other Lands

Dear Friends:

In the last few days, the U.S. government announced a new ban related to travelers who come from Mid-East and North African countries.

About this ban, Wall Street Journal at “U.S. Laptop Ban Unsettles Business Travelers” by By Margherita Stancati and Nicolas Parasie wrote: “U.S. officials early Tuesday said they will ban passengers from carrying most electronics larger than a cellphone into the cabin on direct flights arriving from eight countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The restrictions apply to flights that nine foreign airlines operate directly from 10 airports in the designated countries. Those include regional business hubs Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Riyadh. No U.S. airlines are affected because they don’t directly serve the airports subject to the restrictions.”

And this was my comment in the blog of the story: “The fact is that a smart-phone can be also the "button" to activate a bomb.”

Similar statement I posted in Twitter:

Today, technology offers advanced devices in the level of laptops, digital tablets, cameras and also smart-phones.

Some of the new smart-phones have more power than a lot of laptops available in the market and the risk that any of the electronic devices can be use as bomb activators in near similar.

Like the laptops (portable computers), the smart-phones have powerful microprocessors, internal memory and input-output interfaces to link other devices by cable and wireless connection.

From the other side, thanks cloud computing and Internet of Things, the smart-phones can integrate information systems that could be used for good or bad purposes.

The devils know all the secrets of how technology works and precisely the brains of evil are enough brilliant to hide sophisticated “weapons” in small devices like the standard phones that everybody uses to contact friends and family.

In summary, the ban of laptops in the cabins of the airplanes do not guarantee us that we are living in safe world.

Good point: "Another day of grilling avoiding missteps" and trying to put in the side the criticism of Sen. Schumer.

Some politicians with power enjoy grilling others only for morbidity.

(This story is about the complex questions the Democrats are asking to Judge Neil Gorsuch – the President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court – in the Senate hearing.)

In the current circumstances, Democrats don't have solid arguments to resist the nomination of Judge Gorsuch.

In short words, the Democrats are trying to destroy the integrity of Neil Gorsuch as revenge against the Republicans. Their attitude is silly and nasty.

Maybe the business travelers can transport their digital files in small memory sticks and download them in their destinations in local compatible computers. Today, the most important is the digital information. You find machines everywhere to process it.

The fact is that a smart-phone can be also the "button" to activate a bomb.

My Comment: While Microsoft is developing a special version of Windows 10 for China’s Government, Chinese experts can learn more secrets from the software company.

Sometimes, delicate businesses can put our technology secrets in dangerous hands.

Qualcomm is acting like a leader has to act. It is offering its “skill” in smart-phone processors to everybody including the low-price phone niche.

Apple can make good businesses across China, but it will never conquer completely the heart of the Chinese.

The North Korean leader continues with the series of provocations because he is looking for a military confrontation. For a psychopath like Mr. Kim, destruction and death is personal pleasure.

And he knows that China till now is in his side behind the scene.

Thanks the friendship with the Chinese, North Korea is becoming a huge threat.
