In the Wall Street Journal column titled: "Russia, NATO Fail to Resolve Differences in Ukraine Talks", its author James Marson wrote about the Russian threat to Ukraine
Mr. Marson said that "Russia has gathered
tens of thousands of troops around Ukraine and says it wants big changes in
European security arrangements, and fast. " (According to Deutsche Welle,
the number of troops surpasses 100,000.)
The WSJ column continues: "Moscow is
demanding that NATO give a binding guarantee that it won’t offer membership to
Ukraine and Georgia, two former Soviet republics that Moscow considers part of
its sphere of influence. "NATO has said—since 2008—that Ukraine and
Georgia will eventually become members, but it is in no rush to offer them an
immediate path into the alliance."
Personally, I think the goal of President
Putin is going farther than the demand against the association between Ukraine
and NATO.
My opinion written in the blog comment sector
of the WSJ column is:
"President Putin wants to invade Ukraine
because he is rebuilding the former Soviet Union. And no western countries will
send soldiers to defend the Ukrainians."
