WORLDRETHINK: Twitter tour on March 11, 2021 - Xavier Becerra as Secretary of Health...

#WR: What about Xavier Becerra's nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services? @WSJ  made hard criticism in its Editorial. It says: “Xavier Becerra’s Culture War – His record shows he’ll use health care as a polarizing weapon.” His expertise is laws, no medicine.

Behind the criticism of The Wall Street Journal, we find a question mark? Due to his expertise, is Xavier Becerra the right Secretary of Health for the current moment?

WORLDRETHINK: Twitter tour on March 10, 2021 - Beyond the China-US talks in Alaska

#WR: The U.S. and China return to the person meetings in Alaska. Will something  change from previous talks? Secretary of State Antony Blinken and China's foreign minister have a heavy agenda. But it doesn’t include #tech and military issues. Chinese asked the US for the talks.

According to The Wall Street Journal, "Top U.S. and Chinese officials will hold two days of talks next week in Alaska, the first in-person meeting between senior representatives of the two countries since President Biden took office, a senior administration official said."

"“The goal will be to compare notes on what each of our hopes and plans are for domestic politics, what our goals are internationally, regionally and globally,” the official said. Topics will include the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, and issues of disagreement including China’s stance on Hong Kong and pressure on Taiwan..."

From my perspective as an analyst, I have to remark that China is making every day more pressure about its "rights" on Taiwan. If the United States doesn't react in time, China will take the island-state that is a paradise of the western technology at only miles the continental Chinese territory. We - the United States - and Europe are depending on the huge factories of semiconductors of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

China continues to focus on its main goals, while we discuss lost time in other issues.

WORLDRETHINK: Twitter tour on March 7, 2021 - Is the Covid Relief package a way to pay for November's votes?

#WR: Is President Biden’s $1.9 trillion relief package a way to pay for November's votes? says “The Senate approved the package along party lines, 50-49." It provides $300 in weekly unemployment benefits through Sept. and $1,400 direct payments to many Americans. #Biden

NOTE: My question about the Covid Relief package is personal from me, D. Trassens. WSJ didn't suggest this question.

WORLDRETHINK: Twitter tour on March 6, 2021 - Pope Francis in Iraq, for what?

#WR: Will the Pope visit to Iraq changes the relationships with the Islam? @WSJ said “Pope Francis meets Iraqi Shiite Leader, seeking to build ties with Islam. “ After all the attacks on the Catholic Iraqis, this trip looks only a fantasy.

"The summit with Ali al-Sistani was the first-ever meeting between a Catholic pope and a Shiite grand ayatollah in Iraq."

After the recent persecution of the Catholics in Iraq, what the Pope is looking for with his trip? A "peace" deal between the Catholic and Christian communities and the Islam world ?

Sometimes, Pope Francis makes actions that are very difficult to understand...

WORLDRETHINK: Twitter tour on March 3, 2021 - In the Tech Kingdom, chips shortage

#WR: In the technology kingdom, shortage of chips. @WSJ wrote “A shortage of semiconductor manufacturing capacity is a complex problem that government dollars alone won’t solve. “ Months ago, everybody was repeating that our factories returned to America (???) What is the truth?

In a special report, The Wall Street Journal comments that: "Fixing the production shortage plaguing the chip industry will take a lot of money. It will also take a lot more than money."

"President Biden signed an executive order last week requiring a 100-day review of key supply chains, including semiconductors. He also said he would seek $37 billion in funding to help the domestic chip industry boost capacity. The time frame on that proposed spending wasn’t given—and it amounts to a little over half of the capital expenditures the chip-making industry is already projected to spend globally on wafer fabrication equipment for just this year alone."

In summary, the current chips shortage shows that the semiconductors industry didn't make the right investment in production plants in the United States in the last times. Now, we are depending on the big manufacturing plants of Taiwan, an island-country that is in the eyes of the Chinese President Xi.

WORLDRETHINK: Twitter tour on March 2, 2021 - Were the masks only a joke?

#WR: Were the masks a joke? The vaccination is only partial till now, but according to @WSJ Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said: "Texas businesses will be able to operate at full capacity and state residents will no longer be required to wear masks to visit them. "

"It is now the time to open Texas 100%,” Mr. Abbott, a Republican, said during an announcement in Lubbock. “State mandates are no longer needed.”

While in other places, authorities punish those who do not wear masks, the declaration of the Texas Governor generates a question mark: Were the masks and Covid only a joke or a business of the health sector?
