RETHINKING: Stars of a New World

Dear Friends:

In the middle of series of explosive news in the political arena, in the evening of Tuesday May 9, Wall Street informed that Apple Inc. surpassed the market capitalization of $800 billions after the closure of the NASDAQ market in New York.

From the victory of Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the French presidential election to the firing of the James Comey as FBI Director, a lot of events happened in the domestic and international political arena in only 2 days. The Islamic State beheaded a Russian intelligent agent. Moon Jae-in, a Korean liberal politician, won the elections of South Korea.

The news about Apple came days later the father of Macintosh and iPhone posted the financial results of its second 2017 quarter.

By the way, during the last 4 weeks, before Apple, other four tech leaders (Alphabet, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon) published their respective revenues and net incomes of the first three months of 2017, all of them with good results.

In the case of Apple, this company posted quarterly revenue of $52.9 billion and net income of $11.0 billion. According to Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, during the first three months of 2017, the sales of iPhone 7 Plus continued with a robust demand.

Other sources commented that Apple will start to test its prototype of self-driving car in the streets of California soon. During last April, this company received the permit of the Department of Motor Vehicles of California to test autonomous cars on public roads of this state, like Google and Tesla.

The Apple’s market capitalization of $ 800 billion is an important milestone. This is the first time in the Wall Street history that a company from any industrial or commercial niche surpassed the mark of $800 billion. (Apple started making personal computers in 1977 in a garage. Can you imagine this company is valued by the capital market in more than $800 billion today?)

During decades, the ranking of the most valuable market companies was leaded by industrial and energy enterprises like General Electric, Exxon, General Motors and Ford.

After that, IBM achieved the top of the ranking for a period. Next, Microsoft surpassed the previous leaders and became the No. 1 of the top 10 more valuable companies in the market. (A non-technology company that integrated the group of the 10 TOPs during years was Wal-Mart, retail department store.)

Now, the list is leaded by 5 technology companies in the following order:  Apple, Alphabet (Google’s father), Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon.

Behind Amazon, the ranking of the 10 TOP LEADERS is integrated by: Berkshire Hathaway, Exxon Mobil, Johnson & Johnson, JPMorgan, Tencent and Wells Fargo.

(Several days ago, in a meeting with shareholders, Warren Buffett, CEO and Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, commented that he is an enthusiast investor of Apple’s stocks and he continues using iPhone after 10 years of loyalty with the brand.)

Returning to the yesterday’s milestone of Apple, this was my comment posted in Wall Street Journal:
- “The capitalization above $800 billion of Apple Inc is a 'new feat' of the technology company co-founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne.”

It is important to remark that after the death of Steve Jobs – co-founder and “charismatic leader" of Apple -, a lot of analysts predicted the fall of his 'creature', but they were wrong.

Under the management of Tim Cook, Apple strengthened as one of the leaders of the world smart-phone market, introduced new models of mobile and desktop computers, grew in the niche of digital tablets, entered in the segment of digital watches and started to design new products.

Really, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon are the “stars” of a New World, a world that is changing drastically the behavior of the individuals, the society and the businesses.

We have to hope that these technology innovators contribute for the best of this New World.

After all the last events, I believe that James Comey had to resign for his own decision. He could avoid that the President fired him.

Surely, President Trump had the decision to dismiss James Comey pending, from his first day in office, waiting for the right moment.

The former FBI director was a dangerous man for the administration for his researches and public declarations.

We have to hope that Moon Jae-in doesn’t make a serious mistake when he talks with the North Korean leader, a dictator who ordered the killing of several members of his family and his top generals.

I think some of the previous experiences of Condoleezza Rice are important to consider in the current circumstances.

Posted In Colombia’s Perilous Deal With the FARC
(President Santos made a new perilous deal with the FARC. According to several sources, this group maintains weapons hidden in secret places near to Venezuela.)

This is the "peace" of Colombian President Santos! (The agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC looks like a non-clean business.)

The point is not if the Obama speech worth $400,000. An American president who acted as a “socialist” leader of the free world never has to charge this money to speak in public.

He is more capitalist than the leaders of the capital.

The Obama speech of $400,000 is a clear demonstration of the fake world that we are living.  This is a new case of the leaders who fill their pockets with the ideals of others.

(By the way, Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren showed surprise for the $400.000.)

Macron never was the perfect candidate, but he was the best option. His victory is the voice of the French people saying: "We want to continue being Europeans."

Attention, Emmanuel: Please don't follow the Hollande steps! Follow the path that
France needs today! Your victory will become in a serious defeat if you don’t follow the right way!

Venezuela is not a case of communism, socialism or other ideology. It is a "monument of the corruption" and a lot of people who shout today are part of this corruption.

Venezuela is a country rich in resources, but the political drama of Venezuela comes from long time ago. Maduro is the last "spot".
